Evergreen’s Chamberlin breaks Ohio home run record in final at-bat
METAMORA, Ohio — In the final game of her superb four-year softball career at Evergreen High School, Vikings senior catcher Macy Chamberlin tied and then broke Ohio's all-time record for home runs on Thursday, hitting her 60th and 61st career homers in her team's 6-2 victory over visiting Port Clinton. “I couldn't have done it without my team,” Chamberlin said. “They have supported me throughout this whole year, through ups and downs, and through the pressure. Without this team, it wouldn't have been possible. “The only pressure I got was the pressure I gave myself. After games here and there, I would give myself pressure, but would come back the next day relaxed and ready to go.” Chamberlin, who was named first team All-Ohio the past two seasons, equaled the mark set by Hope Straight of Mount Vernon High School (from 2016-19) with a solo blast to right-center in the first inning against off of Redskins pitcher Ashton Sanchez.

High school track and field: Perrysburg girls claim district title
The Perrysburg girls scored 112, points, fending off Anthony Wayne (103), St. Ursula (90), and Whitmer (90) to win the Division I track and field district meet held Friday at Clay. Lexington won the boys team title with 83.5 points. Second-place Southview was the top local team with 78 points. Distance running was an area of strength for the Perrysburg girls as Ava Beeks won the 800-meter run in 2:16.18 and Hannah Kersten took the 1,600 in 5:02.62 and the 3,200 in 11:44.00. The Yellow Jackets compiled six other second-place and third-place finishes on their way to clinching the team championship.
Walleye see 22-game winning streak snapped in 3-2 loss to Kansas City
The Toledo Walleye took the high road after their record-setting 22-game winning streak was snapped on a somewhat controversial call in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals and insisted they would quickly turn the page. The Kansas City Mavericks grabbed a 1-0 lead in the Western Conference finals on Friday night before a sellout crowd of 8,117 at the Huntington Center. Kansas City forward Jacob Hayhurst broke a third-period deadlock as the Mavericks prevailed 3-2. Hayhurst scored with 6:32 left in regulation after Jeremy McKenna beat out an icing call and centered the puck from behind the net. On the rush toward the Toledo net, Walleye defenseman Riley McCourt fell but appeared to have won the race to the puck for what should have been an icing call on Kansas City. Post-game, Walleye coach Pat Mikesch said he had to review the video before giving an opinion on the pivotal play.
Walk-off home run propels Perrysburg softball past Springfield in district final
CLYDE, Ohio — Hitting a walk-off home run to win a game is what players dream of. For Perrysburg's Jessica Miller, it became reality Friday. With Springfield surging to tie the game late, Miller took advantage of a pitch over the plate, slamming a solo shot over the left-field fence, lifting second-seeded Perrysburg to a 9-8 Division I district championship over the third-seeded Blue Devils at Joe Wilson Field at Clyde High School. "I was really hoping to hit a line drive just to get on base," Miller said. "A walk is a walk. I was going to be on base and I knew at some point, I was going to be that winning run."

Anthony Wayne softball records 3rd straight tournament shutout
BOWLING GREEN — Stingy pitching and one big inning of offense were the main ingredients for Anthony Wayne on Friday night, as the third-ranked Generals captured their fourth straight Division I district softball title with a 7-0 victory over Mansfield Madison at Bowling Green State University's Meserve Field. Anthony Wayne (25-1), which had clinched a Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division championship with a resounding 15-5 win at Perrysburg on Monday, made it 3-for-3 with tournament shutouts so far by blanking the Rams (20-6) from the Ohio Cardinal Conference. Senior right-hander Kat Meyers, who will pitch next year for the University of Michigan, followed her seven-inning, 18-strikeout perfect game from the Generals 4-0 district semifinal win over Start on Tuesday with five innings of two-hit shutout pitching versus Madison. “I felt pretty good today in warm-ups,” Meyers said. “The field was a little wet, but that's all right. You've just kind of got to work with it and dig it out a little bit. “Our defense was great. I always have my full confidence in them. I had the same mindset as I did on Tuesday — one batter at a time.”
Bowling Green bats come alive in middle innings of win over Toledo at Fifth Third Field
One swing of the bat from Landon Roque sent fans into a tizzy Friday at Fifth Third Field. And it sent a baseball across Monroe Street. The Bowling Green third baseman pummeled a Noah Johnson pitch down the left field line and into a parking lot on the south side of the Commodore Perry. The only suspense was whether it was fair or not. The two-run home run was part of a five-run fourth inning for the Falcons, who beat the University of Toledo 8-6 on a picturesque late spring night in downtown Toledo.

Briggs: For Toledo men's basketball, all's well that ends well after 'crazy' start to offseason
The Toledo men’s basketball program has won four straight Mid-American Conference championships, but Tod Kowalczyk is realistic about expectations going forward. Now that the dust is settling on a frenetic offseason — which began with UT’s top three players declaring for free agency — he is not sure the Rockets will be as good next year. No … “I think we’ll be better,” Kowalczyk said.
