Woman seriously injured in Columbia County crash
Orangeville, Pa. — A 23-year-old woman is in critical condition after a crash along State Route 487 Saturday afternoon. Destiny M. Gearh of Benton was driving a 2003 Acura south on SR 487 near Fishing Creek Campground when she lost control of the car on a curve, according to Trp. Brandon Welch of state police at Bloomsburg. Gearh's vehicle slid into the oncoming lane and into the path of 2020 Ford F250 driven by 64-year-old Donna Richard of Newton, NJ just after 3:30 p.m. Geahr was seriously injured and unresponsive after the collision. She was taken by ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, officials say. Richard and her passenger, 66-year-old John Richard, of Butler, NJ, were not injured, Welch said.

Couple charged with raping preschooler in their Lancaster County home
A Lancaster County mother and father are charged with raping a child for years, more than a decade ago, starting at age 4, police said in court documents. John Dehart, 56, of Camano Island, Washington, and Sarah Miller, 34, of Nanticoke, Luzerne County, took their clothing off and forced the child to perform sex acts with Miller, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by East Hempfield Township police. The child was related to the couple.

Low-flying helicopter to conduct work Thursday in Columbia County
Bloomsburg, Pa. — If you see a low-flying helicopter next week in Columbia County, it's no cause for alarm. PennDOT says a helicopter will be conducting utility work near Interstate 80 eastbound in Scott Township. Starting Thursday, May 9, a PPL contractor will be flying near the utility lines to conduct work between the Lions Gate Apartments and Statewide Furniture. This will be in the area of I-80 eastbound between mile markers 236 and 238, just east of the Route 487 interchange (Lightstreet). The work will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Drivers should be alert, slow down, and drive with caution.

Delayed certification of election in Luzerne County
Luzerne County is delaying certification of the April 23 primary election results due to ongoing court challenges, according to Luzerne County Manager Romilda Crocamo. The pending challenges are in the race for the Republican nomination for state representative in the 117th Legislative District. Only three votes currently separate candidates Jamie Walsh and incumbent Michael Cabell, with Walsh in the lead. Because some provisional ballots are still subject to legal challenge, the certification will be postponed until the judicial proceedings related to the provisional ballots are concluded.
