    Beloit College track and field teams perform well at Battle of the Bluffs

    DUBUQUE, Iowa—Beloit College’s Candis Damtse added another win to her outstanding season while Clinton graduate Hannah Welte secured a victory as the Buccaneers competed in the Battle of the Bluffs at the University of Dubuque on Friday.

    Beloit men’s team finished third out of seven teams while the women were fourth out of six.

    Damtse won the 400-meter dash in 56.88 seconds, a time that takes over as the top overall in the Midwest Conference this season. The senior from Accra, Ghana also was second in the 200 after finishing in an MWC-fastest 24.90.

    Damtse also ran a leg of both the second-place 4x400 relay (3:59.6) with Sophia Miller, Jaeonie Echols and Alayna Furch, which took over the top time in the conference, and the fifth-place 4x100 team with Darcel Royster, Echols and Welte.

    Welte won the 400 hurdles in 1:07.67, a time that is second in the MWC, and was sixth in the 100 hurdles (17.04). In the field, the senior finished fifth in the long jump (5.08 meters).

    Naomi Murphy was seventh in the high jump (1.35) and Haley Carlin was eighth in the pole vault (2.50).

    On the men’s side, the 4x400 relay of Izzy Zewdie, Alexandre Atou, Nate Otis and Daniel DeGoerge took second. Their time of 3:22.14 is fastest in the MWC by over two seconds.

    The 4x100 relay of Ayouba Sumoaro, Azeez Ganiyu, Quinten Lottig and Zewdie was fifth (43.99).

    Otis was fourth in the 400 hurdles (55.04) and seventh in the 110 hurdles (16.06) while Lottig was seventh (59.73) in the 400 hurdles.

    Josh Yearby was seventh in the 100 (11.00) while Atou was 10th in the 400 (49.66), which was the fastest time in the MWC.

    Kevon Mills had a stellar day in the field as he was second in the long jump (6.89) and third in the high jump (1.94). Diontia Charles and Vansh Bhandari finished 6-7 in the triple jump (12.39 and 11.63, respectively).

    Beloit Memorial graduate Joshua Martinez Marte was seventh in the shot put (14.49) and Caden Anderson was second in the javelin (48.87).
