The Virginia House of Delegates recently passed a bill that would incrementally raise the state's minimum wage from the current $12 per hour to $15 per hour by January 1, 2026. The legislation, spearheaded by Delegate Jeion Ward and supported by several others, aims to address wage disparities and the rising cost of living. The bill suggests an intermediate increase to $13.50 starting January 1, 2025, before reaching the $15 mark the following year. This legislative move, however, still requires the nod from the Virginia Senate and Governor Glenn Youngkin to become law.
Coeburn man faces at least 20 years following armed meth trafficking conviction
ABINGDON, Va. — A Wise County man faces will spend decades in prison, after being found guilty by a federal jury of eight drug and gun charges. Rodney Allen Pickett, 51, of Coeburn, was convicted on Friday, following a three-day trial. The jury found him guilty of five counts related to the distribution of more than 500 grams of meth, as well as three gun charges.
