BAYONNE, NJ - Chillier than normal weather for and overcast skies hinting at rain did nothing to discourage a larger than expected crowd to attend the Bayonne Food Truck Festival on May 4.

“This is the largest crowd we’ve ever had,” said Edoardo “Junior” Ferrante, who was among the localofficials who made their way through thousands of people who lined up to get a taste of a wide variety of food truck cuisine.

The attendees came from far and wide, taking advantage of the nearby station for the Hudson Bergen Light Rail as they poured through the three block annual festival.

The admission was free and included live music, face painting and rides for children.

Many people made their way to the beer garden although most went from truck to truck, that included a variety of local, as well as ethnic food: Sicilian, Maine Lobster, Chavas, Taste of Poland,  hot dogs, steak, Caribbean, and more.

“This is a great event,” said Councilman Loyad Booker, who had planted himself near the bandstand where two local bands provided free entertainment.

Among the dignitatries who traveled in for the tasty festivities was Michael Harper, who had made his way to Bayonne from his home in Secaucus.

“I couldn’t stay away,” Harper said.

The food truck festival, which started prior to the COVID pandemic, has become one more sign of Bayonne’s growing popularity and prosperity, and took place along Avenue E where a number of new residential developments have cropped up over the last half decade.

“It’s become very popular,” said Councilman Neil Carroll.
