BATTLE CREEK — A 50-year-old Battle Creek man was hit and killed by a passing vehicle during a possible domestic assault Monday on Michigan Avenue, according to the Battle Creek Police Department.

Officers responded to several reports of a possible domestic assault in the 800 block of East Michigan Avenue shortly after 11:30 p.m. Monday. Once on scene, officers learned that one of the people involved in the alleged assault had been struck by a passing vehicle.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Initial information obtained by police indicates that a vehicle involved in the possible domestic assault had been parked or stopped in the eastbound lane of Michigan Avenue. The victim that was struck by a vehicle either walked or ran from the parked/stopped vehicle, and was then struck by a different vehicle traveling in the westbound lane of Michigan Avenue, police said.

The driver of the vehicle that struck and killed the victim has been identified as a 60-year-old Battle Creek man. He did stop after hitting the man and is currently cooperating with the ongoing investigation, police said.

No arrests have been made at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
