BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Enjoy cocktails and want to know the root of how to make a good one? The Tipsy Librarian offers you an experience for that.

Through a cocktail-making class located in Baton Rouge, the Tipsy Librarian offers a wide variety of spirits such as rum, tequila and bourbon. Of the variety of products to use, none are artificial.

Maranda Howell is the mastermind behind the experience tying her love for cocktails and using her experience as a librarian to give a deeper understanding.

“You can take the girl out of the library but you can’t take the library out of the girl,” said Howell. “My classes, they’re super in-depth. The way that we go through each ingredient and we’re discussing the why.”

The cocktail classes start with an informational session on the cocktail that is about to be made and the importance of each ingredient.

Once the classes start, you prepare to make three different cocktails where you will create each drink through measurements, mixing and high-quality spirits.

Options of classes include public and private but most importantly, allow you to try different combinations and expand your likings.

“I like to think this is a safe space to be able to explore a variety of different flavors and discover them, because you know people are intimidated, they don’t know what a lot of these things are when they go somewhere,” said Howell.

Howell said the overall goal is not just to learn how to make cocktails in class but also to take the skills learned to make them at home, which is why she gives out a recipe along with where to shop for the ingredients used in the class locally.

“My goal is I want you to 100% be able to fully recreate that experience for yourself. I’m going to let you know where in town you can find the spirits,” said Howell.

There are over 100 different top-shelf spirits available in over 90 cocktail recipes to choose from. Visit the Tipsy Librarian to learn more about the classes and how to book.
