Police in central Iowa town investigating after man shot, killed
EAGLE GROVE, Iowa (KCRG) - An early morning shooting in central Iowa on Saturday resulted in the death of a man, according to law enforcement officials. At around 2:35 a.m., the Eagle Grove Police Department in Wright County was sent to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of South Lucas Avenue. Officials found a man who had apparently been shot and killed in the incident.

Webster County Public Health Department missing nearly $24K, state audit finds
WEBSTER COUNTY, Iowa — Webster County is missing nearly $24,000 following years of mishandled financial transactions by its previous public health director. An audit released on Friday alleges that former director Kari Prescott told workers to deposit Webster County's immunization and tuberculosis test payments into a bank bag in her desk rather than to the county treasurer, which goes against department policy.
Three People Facing Charges After High Speed Pursuit in NW Iowa
(Pocahontas)--Three people are facing charges after a high speed pursuit this past Sunday that began in Pocahontas and ended in Clay County. At approximately 4:30 am Sunday, a Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a vehicle speeding in the 4400 block of Highway 4 near Havelock. When the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, a 2020 Nissan Kicks, the driver accelerated to speeds reaching 100 mph. The driver took deputies down secondary gravel roads and entered the opposing lane numerous times during the pursuit along with shutting the vehicles lights off. A PIT maneuver was conducted by a Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Deputy at the intersection of 330th St. and 470th Avenue in Clay County, successfully stopping the vehicle.

Paton-Churdan to Send Seven Students to District Individual Speech Contest
With the Iowa High School Speech Association District Individual Contest coming up Saturday, a few students from Paton-Churdan are going to compete. P-C Speech Coach Nicole Freiss-Schilling says seven students are in five categories, including musical theater, prose, poetry, storytelling and improv. Three students are performing in two categories and those include Phoenix Hartman in prose and improv, Ella Tasler with storytelling and poetry, and Blaise Schilling in prose and poetry.
