Judge Valentine in Wayne County Court handed down a pair of sentences on Thursday. 37-year-old Amanda M. Scott of Fairfield pled guilty on a charge of unlawful possession of meth. As a part of the plea, 3 counts of possession of a controlled substance, 2 counts of possession of meth, a count of possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a cancelled, revoked, or suspended registration were dropped. Scott will serve 2 years of probation and pay court costs of $5259.

Several sentences were handed down in Wayne County Court on Tuesday. 47-year-old Sara Bailey of Mount Vernon pled guilty to a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. As a part of the plea, a possession of meth charge was dropped. Bailey will serve a year of probation and pay court costs of $3015.

Fire has destroyed a 40 by 40-foot pole barn on the Bart Rainey property between Mt. Vernon and Woodlawn. Jefferson Fire says the barn off East Casey Pike was fully engulfed upon their arrival. The barn and the items stored inside, including a golf cart, mower, and four-wheelers, were a total loss.

It’s been 3 months since Coins for Cancer has officially established itself as a local non profit and the five women driving the effort have already dispersed more than $5,000 to individuals battling the disease. Becky McCormick, Carrie Carpenter, Angie Lueke, Kim Winter, and Courtney Desper visited with Carmi Kiwanis Thursday to explain their mission and effort. Four of the five women are cancer survivors themselves and after the pandemic and the dwindling of the White County Relay for Life, the group saw the need firsthand how they could make a difference directly.
