BALTIMORE -- A 15-year-old charged in a mass shooting in Baltimore's Brooklyn Homes community last August will take a plea deal, according to his attorney.
The 15-year-old defendant faces 10 charges, including attempted first-degree murder, two riot charges and gun charges.
Aaron Brown, 18, and, Tristan Brian Jackson , 18, along with three minors, were charged with attempted first and second-degree murder.
Attorney Warren Brown told WJZ that all five defendants charged in the shooting have been offered plea deals, and have until May 31 to accept.
"I don't know what the nature of those deals are, but, yeah everybody has been made an offer," Brown said.
During a hearing in March, prosecutors say they were able to tie Brown's 5-year-old client to the Brooklyn Day mass shooting after cartridge casings recovered from the crime scene were consistent with a gun the defendant was carrying during a later arrest.
The State also claimed that at the time of that arrest, the 15-year-old was wearing the same shoes he is seen on CCTV wearing at the Brooklyn Day Block Party.
"If we had gone to trial and lost, he would have been convicted of use of a handgun, that's a mandatory five without parole and up to 20 years," Brown said. "And, first-degree assault, he could have gotten another 20 for that. He was facing a lot of time in the adult system."
Brown says his client will plead guilty to first-degree assault and minor in possession of a handgun, and as a part of a deal with the State, avoid going to adult prison.
"He'll serve probably a year and a half and be out. He's 15," Brown said. "This plea guarantees that he will not have to go to Hagerstown or Jessup or ECI."
WJZ reached out to the lawyers representing the other four defendants charged in the Brooklyn Day mass shooting.
The State's Attorney's office declined to comment.
Nobody has been charged for the shooting deaths of Aaliyah Gonzalez and Kylie Fagbemi.
Brown says his client's next court appearance is set for June 7 when he can officially accept the State's deal in court.
