SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage UPDATE, April 15, 12:50 p.m. ) — In a Facebook announcement issued by the Ballinger Fire Department on April 14, the department stated that fire occurred in a storage building located near an alleyway that connected two structures owned by Ballinger Home Health.

Multiple mutual aid departments, including several volunteer fire departments from surrounding communities, fought the blaze alongside the Ballinger Fire Department. Together, they contained the fire to the storage building. The joint effort saved adjacent structures as well as 20-plus cars parked in a nearby parking garage. All agencies were released from the scene at 2 a.m.

RUNNELS COUNTY, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) – A large fire broke out in downtown Ballinger Saturday night, April 13, just before 8 p.m. Police at the scene say they believe the structure to be a medical supply building.

No injuries were reported, and officers told KTAB/KRBC they did not believe the building was occupied at the time. However, the area around the building was evacuated due to danger of explosions.

Multiple power outages have been reported in Ballinger, though it is unconfirmed if they are related to a fire.

KTAB/KRBC crews on scene report having heard “pop” and “boom” sounds coming from the area of the fire. Capturing video and pictures of the scene as multiple fire departments responded working to contain the blaze. Our crews described the building as “fully engulfed.” They also witnessed multiple additional fire units headed toward downtown Ballinger from the Winters area.

As of last update around 10 p.m. Saturday, crews are still working to extinguish the flames and the area around the building has been cordoned off by law enforcement due to safety concerns.

Fires continued to rage until about 2 a.m. Saturday, according to a statement from Ballinger Fire Department.
