KINSTON, Lenoir County — A NC Highway checkpoint uncovers psilocybin mushrooms that led to the arrest of a Greenville man. Kinston law enforcement came in contact with Christopher Smith, 34 of Greenville during a driver's license checking station on Highway 11 on Tuesday, April 30 close to midnight. Officers searched the vehicle after observing drug violations and found a concealed handgun, more than 60 grams of psilocybin mushrooms and more than 70 grams of marijuana.

Pedestrian badly hurt in hit-and-run on east side of city
Police are asking for the public’s help finding a motorist who fled the U.S. 64 interchange for East Raleigh Boulevard in the eastern part of the city after striking a pedestrian late Saturday night. Officers at 11:05 p.m. responded to the scene of the hit-and-run. The pedestrian was taken to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville with life-threatening injuries, police said. An investigation is continuing. Police said that anyone with any information about the incident is encouraged to call the police department at (252) 972-1411 or Crime Stoppers at (252) 977-1111.
