AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – After COVID-19, Piedmont Augusta Summerville campus closed its doors. Four years later, the hospital is set to reopen with updated new units.

“We will be reopening our emergency department, which is a 15-bed emergency department,” said Nic Wood, Executive Director Hospital Administrator for Piedmont Augusta Summerville and Mcduffie. “We will be reopening a 12-bed in-patient unit, and then also where we’re standing right now, our radiology department. We have revamped the services here. So, you will be able to come get your CT scan done on this brand new beautiful, machine that you see. X-ray- ultrasound, and we will also have a brand-new MRI machine later this summer.”

Hospital administrators hope opening the hospital will give patients quicker and easier access to services.

“With it being a smaller campus to start with, we are really going to be able to focus on that patient-centered care. You know, really making sure that our patients feel valued. They feel heard. And we just really be able to focus on streamline, flow, and throughput for our emergency department. Really getting patients the appropriate care they need in a timely manner,” said Wood.

They listened to the community and wanted to continue bringing their patients the best care.

“We want to be able to provide care close to home. That’s a model that Piedmont really emphasizes care close to home, where we can provide convenient, hassle-free care for people you know right here in their neighborhoods. We are very excited to reopen the Summerville campus because we know how much of an impact it truly has on this community,” said Wood.

There will be a dedicated ambulance 24/7 that will transport patients to higher-level care if needed. The campus will reopen on May 16th and will not affect the current partnership with Augusta Tech.
