ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — A new lane closure began Sunday on I-95 South in Attleboro.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will be replacing the ramp from I-295 North, with the intent of improving traffic flow in the area.

This project’s first phase got underway on Sunday. To give construction crews room to work, I-95 South was reduced from three lanes to two. Traffic coming from I-295 North won’t be affected.

This lane closure will be in place through 2025, according to MassDOT.

Drivers are asked to reduce their speed in the work zone and prepare for potential delays.

The work will also include installing a new guardrail and bridge rail on the east side of I-95 South, lengthening the acceleration lane, and widening the bridge over Ten Mile River.

Later phases of the project will affect travel on both I-95 South and I-295 North, MassDOT said. This will include temporarily shutting down the ramp itself, which is expected to happen during a weekend in the fall.
