(Atlantic) Steps of Hope placed a Naloxone box at the Atlantic Public Library Saturday afternoon.

Ann Breeding lost her son Daniel in 2020 from a substance use disorder. She said she started doing an annual walk on Daniel’s birthday (May 20th) to raise awareness. The next goal was to increase the accessibility to Naloxone to reduce overdose deaths.

Brooke Anderson lost her son Devin in 2022.

Anderson’s goal is to have Naloxone boxes placed in Pottawattamie and Shelby counties.

Shannon Haus lost her son Callyn Pollock in 2018.

Haus’ goal is to have Naloxone boxes placed in Adair and Guthrie counties.

And, the ultimate goal is to get a box placed in every county.

The box was made possible by funds donated by the citizens of Cass County and Steps of Hope. The Naloxone box is placed in the southwest corner of the Atlantic Public Library and the Naloxone is free. Iowa Harm Reduction Coalition will be supplying doses to this box monthly.

Ann Breeding said Narcan does not harm anyone, it enables breathing for someone who has a current overdose on opioids.

More information on the Naloxone boxes can be found at stepsofhopeiowa.org.
