Fresh Foods Market Proposes Grocery Store, Housing at La Sierra Site in Dundee
DUNDEE, Ore. — During the Dundee City Council meeting on Aug. 18, an Oregon-based grocery chain proposed building a grocery store in a town without one. Jon Welsh, CEO of Fresh Foods Market, presented plans to Dundee’s city council for a roughly 15,000-square-foot grocery store along Highway 99W. Public gets more time to weigh in on future of Salem's north waterfront
Salem City Council moved Aug. 24 to punt a vote to a later date on creating the proposed North Waterfront Urban Renewal Area after expressing concerns and hearing public testimony. Council was set to vote on creating the urban renewal area north of downtown Salem to spur development and growth in the industrial swath of land along the Willamette River. It instead voted unanimously to continue the hearing and return to the issue at a yet-to-be-determined date. Councilor Vanessa Nordyke excused herself from the discussion and vote because a family member owns property in the proposed renewal area. Keeping the hearing open means the public can still submit testimony and talk to councilors about the proposal. What is the proposed North Waterfront Urban Renewal Area? An urban renewal area is a designated district in the city that uses tax increment financing to pay for public improvements that encourage redevelopment in areas with aging infrastructure, blight, contamination, vacant land or poor transportation. Creating an urban renewal area allows the city to freeze assessed property value and use the taxes generated from that increase value for the designated area. Council is considering a new tax increment financing district covering about 421 acres
