Sacramento Japanese restaurant group opens two fan-favorite eateries in Davis

A Japanese restaurant offering ramen and all-you-can-eat sushi has arrived to Davis. Fukumi Restaurant Group combined its two popular eateries, Fukumi Chaya x Momo Katsu, and Pier 50 Sushi, in one building in Davis. The combo offers, as the owners said, “the best of both worlds.” “From fresh sushi to comforting ramen, your new favorite spot is nearly here,” read the announcement on social media. The combined dining spots at 226 F St. are part of the Fukumi Restaurant Group, a collective of Japanese restaurants throughout the Greater Sacramento area. Alongside Fukumi Chaya and Pier 50, the group owns Fukumi Japanese Noodle House, It’s Sushi and Young’s Teriyaki. Pier 50 Sushi has two other locations in the Sacramento area. Its flagship is at 1735 Arden Way. There is a location in Folsom’s outdoor Palladio Shopping Center at 330 Palladio Parkway and Fukumi Chaya’s original brick and mortar is open in the Pallado Shopping Center as well. Sacramento City Unified school leaders clash with city, police over ICE notification

Sacramento City Unified School District leaders are pressing city officials to notify schools when federal immigration agents are operating nearby. SCUSD Superintendent Cancy McArn sent a letter Friday morning to City Manager Maraskeshia Smith requesting a meeting with Smith, Mayor Kevin McCarty, interim Police Chief Zachary Bales and several City Council members to “strengthen communication” with the district’s Safe Schools department. “Recent ICE enforcement activity, including the well-documented activity near Ethel Phillips Elementary School, has raised significant concerns about the fear and uncertainty experienced by our families and the lack of communication with the district,” she wrote. McArn’s letter was a formal request for a meeting, but school board trustee and civil rights attorney Jasjit Singh took a firmer stance amid surging federal immigration enforcement in the capital region. “Communicate with the school district — we don’t need kids walking past masked individuals holding guns,” he said. Singh and two other trustees addressed the City Council last week after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were spotted near the south Sacramento school, causing confusion and concern among students and families during afterschool pickup. Every year on the third Thursday of November, Beaujolais Nouveau is released and immediately flown to shops and restaurants around the world. Made from Gamay grapes in the Beaujolais region of France, the wine is meant to drink while it’s still young. According to Serious Eats , most Beaujolais Nouveau is mass-produced, using lower-grade grapes from the region. It tends to be bright and fruit-forward, a “simple, chuggable wine for celebrating the harvest.” Its more serious cousin, Cru Beaujolais, is made in a cluster of 10 villages in the northern part of the region, with premium grapes and more sophisticated winemaking methods. Because of its immediacy, many restaurants wrap events around the release, so people can experience the wine in the way it’s intended.
