Monticello Spring Signing Day
Monticello High School saw five more student-athletes sign their National Letters of Intent to extend their athletic careers into the college ranks. Jack Geislinger, Dylan Janssen, Carson Callstrom, Jason Jones and Rose Urick all signed on Spring National Signing Day on Wednesday, May 8. Monticello’s hopes of winning a second straight Mississippi 8 title went out the window when they lost to Princeton last week but they have bigger fish to fry. They bounced back by crushing Becker two days later and reminded the state that they aren’t done yet. The Magic had won seven games in a row before dropping a non-conference matchup to Orono on Monday, May 6. Monticello Athlete of the Week: Brock Holthaus
Monticello High School junior Brock Holthaus is a menace for Magic baseball. Holthaus helped Monticello take down Becker 11-1 in five innings on Thursday, May 9. Against the Bulldogs, he went 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk, two RBI and three runs. He is tied for second on the team with 15 hits, tied for first with three triples, is second with 12 walks and is tied with Caden King for a team-high 14 RBI.

It was clear from the beginning that this Monticello boys’ tennis team was different. Champlin Park softball played three games last week amid an eventful end to the regular season, including a dramatic comeback 4-3 win over Wayzata on May 15. Cooper baseball hosted Brooklyn Center last week in a 7-1 Hawks win May 17.
