What started as a special quarterback class in the 2024 NFL Draft is only growing more competitive as more reports emerge about former Michigan Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy becoming a potential top-five pick. McCarthy's hype seems only to get louder with each workout in front of NFL executives through the Scouting Combine and Michigan’s Pro Day.

However, Colin Cowherd said he’s not buying into all the smoke around McCarthy just yet, especially after seeing the results of taking what he would consider a comparable QB early in the 2021 NFL Draft.

“This is starting to feel like Zach Wilson with the [New York] Jets where he has a couple of good throws in his Pro Day…J.J.’s college experience is not the NFL,” Cowherd said on Tuesday’s episode of The Herd .

McCarthy’s draft stock is reaching its peak after reports emerged over the weekend that the Washington Commanders are heavily considering selecting him with their No. 2 overall pick.

McCarthy might prove Cowherd wrong when he makes the leap to the NFL, but you can’t blame The Herd host for his caution after seeing what happened when the Jets drafted Zach Wilson.
