Alyeska Resort Passes 700 Inches

Alaska has had an incredible season right from the start of the season. In November downtown Anchorage nabbed 20 inches in a 3 days that shut down schools for that entire period. Powderchasers was in Anchorage for that storm to witness the deepness at the airport. Alyeska was nearly in full operation then, aside from the outer gates (Chucks etc.).

Anchorage is very close to setting its all time seasonal snowfall record of 134.5 inches from the 2011/12 season. Total snowfall in Anchorage for this winter currently is at 130.5. An additional 4.1 inches in Anchorage would surpass the record .

Alyeska Ski area is currently at 702 with 5 inches reported in the past 24 hours. They currently sit in the #1 position season to date in the USA.

According to from the National Weather Service in Anchorage temperatures averaged 24.1 at the airport which is climatologically normal for the season.

Over the next 5-7 days Powderchasers sees some light snow for Alyeska early next week that increases by midweek. Temps will be cooling midweek and it is entirely possible that Anchorage sets the record. Snowfall is not uncommon in Anchorage through May. Lets hope they break that record!

According to Joey Wolf at Alaska Backcountry Guides in Valdez, it's been one of the snowiest seasons in many years including downtown. ABG runs a Heli operation in Valdez.
