AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – An Amarillo area nonprofit announced that it will host community giveaway events on Friday and Monday after receiving an anonymous donation of approximately 50,000 pounds of potatoes.

Representatives from Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle’s Interfaith Hunger Project announced that the organization received the towering, tubular donation on Thursday. The project, as noted in previous reports, provides a free monthly supply of food to those who are on a fixed income and either living with a disability or over the age of 50.

“Because there’s no way we can distribute that many potatoes to our clients before they go bad, we are inviting anyone in the public to come and take as many as they can use free of charge,” said the representatives.

The giveaway distribution events will be held on Friday and Monday at the Interfaith Hunger Project, located at 1900 N Spring, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on both days. Officials asked that those seeking to collect potatoes bring their own bags.

The distribution days come after the IFHP noted the organization already donated more than 12,000 pounds of potatoes to other local nonprofits but still had more than 35,000 pounds remaining.

“So, come and get it,” said the IFHP, “There’s plenty for everyone who wants it.”

More information on the resources and programs offered by the Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle can be found on the organization’s website.
