New Orleans Museum of Art – Art in Bloom

The undeniable appeal of art, flowers, design, fashion and good company is what brings people to Art in Bloom at the New Orleans Museum of Art year after year. Presented by First Horizon Bank, the five-day event, themed “Marsh Madness” this year, kicked off with a Patron and Preview Party on March 18 in the museum, where guests could peruse the fantastical floral arrangements and mise-en-scènes crafted by local creatives including florists, designers, Ikebana practitioners and more, as well as the city’s garden clubs; the Garden Study Club of New Orleans hosts the event with the museum.

The Greek Revival mansion that sits at the corner of Prytania Street and Jackson Avenue in New Orleans’ Garden District wouldn’t know “dull” if it came up and rang the doorbell. The 1857 building’s first owner was a cotton merchant who died of yellow fever. Another owner was fatally struck by lightning. Fast-forward to the 21st century, when a Tina Turner impersonator bought the property and turned it into Magnolia Mansion, a B&B with suites with names like Vampire Lovers’ Lair and Moulin Rouge. A former professional boxer and local politics kingmaker took over, but things fell apart around the time of the FBI’s raid on the property.

A patch of once-vacant land along the northern edge of the Lower Ninth Ward has become a 40-acre wetland drawing more than 100 species of birds, along with reptiles, amphibians, beavers and otters. The chef behind Banh Mi Boys is opening a new NOLA restaurant. There won’t be sandwiches.

The team behind Banh Mi Boys is bringing a new restaurant to a vacated hoagie shop in New Orleans, but this Oak Street location won’t be serving sandwiches. Chef and owner Peter Nguyen announced plans on social media Tuesday to take over the building that most recently held PrimoHoagies at 8228 Oak Street, a prime location in the Leonidas neighborhood surrounded by other bars, shops and cafes. While Nguyen said he hopes to have the new sister restaurant up and running by March 2027, he’s keeping many of the specifics under wraps for now.

New Orleans concerts on Halloween weekend 2026: Widespread Panic, Quantum Leap Fest and more

Music for Halloween weekend includes two nights of a jam band at the Lakefront Arena and a multinight modern jazz festival. In 1997, Georgia jam band Widespread Panic established a tradition of performing at the Lakefront Arena on what is now the LSU New Orleans campus on Halloween weekend. Over the next six years, Panic built up to playing three consecutive nights at the Lakefront Arena. In the early years of the tradition, fans were allowed to camp on the arena grounds, creating a temporary village reminiscent of the parking lots at Grateful Dead concerts.
