Jesus Maria Figueroa, 29 (Blair County Prison)

Jesus Maria Figueroa, 29, was arrested and placed in Blair County Prison after a reported robbery of a delivery driver in Altoona in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 14. It happened after a call already came to 911 from Figueroa about being threatened with a knife, according to charges filed.

Altoona police said they were called to a home on the 300 block of 14th Street for a weapons call where a man, later found to be Figueroa, called about being threatened with a knife. The homeowner told police that Figueroa had just finished his fourth FourLoko beverage and had become irate. According to his account, Figueroa began yelling and cursing. That’s when his roommate grabbed a knife to protect himself and he asked Figueroa to leave, which he did. He was allegedly wearing a denim jacket with a large Led Zeppelin logo on the back when he left.

While at the scene, police received another weapons call on the 900 block of 7th Avenue in the city. After arriving, they spoke to a DoorDash driver who claimed he was robbed by a man that fit the description of Figueroa, notably, the face tattoos. According to the criminal complaint, the DoorDash driver said he was delivering to a house when he heard a man yell out: “Hey, that’s my food!” before being approached by the man with a large green bag and what looked like a knife by his side. The driver handed over the food and said the man asked him for $20. The suspect never went to the house, instead, he went in between houses and disappeared.

Police noted in the complaint that the customer told them he heard a man outside and looked to see the DoorDash driver in a confrontation with someone and he handed over the order.

While speaking to the driver and customer, police were notified by Logan Township police that a man matching Figueroa’s description was seen at Sheetz on 7th Avenue. He was quickly detained due to the nature of the calls they’d received, according to charges.

Altoona police arrived at Sheetz where Figueroa agreed to answer questions, the complaint reads. Police noted they could smell alcohol on his breath as he denied that he was the one who called 911 about being threatened with a knife. Police said they then called the initial phone number listed by dispatch and Figueroa’s cellphone began to ring.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, police took Figueroa back to the area of the DoorDash robbery where they met with the delivery driver who confirmed Figueroa was the man who robbed him, pointing out the face tattoos.

Figueroa was taken to the Altoona Police Department where he became belligerent and tried resisting being put in a holding cell. Police noted in the complaint that they found a denim jacket with a Led Zeppelin logo on the back in his green bag, just as the first victim described.
