Racing balloons dot the skies of Galesburg this weekend
It’s a competition for hot-air balloonists, but it’s a good and free time for everyone else. The Galesburg Great Balloon Race lands at Lake Storey Park later Friday afternoon, and continues as late as Sunday morning. There will be chances to meet the balloonists and see their rides up close, with other activities for children, and food also available.

Parks director addresses district’s cleanup priorities
Last week’s tornadoes caused massive damage in three of the Kewanee Park District’s parks, and the recovery effort might not be finished until the end of next month. The park board met Wednesday; the meeting had been postponed from the scheduled date of last Thursday in the wake of the July 15 tornadoes which devastated Windmont, Baker and Chautauqua parks.
Storm cleanup will take weeks, if not months
The city will pick up brush that resulted from last week’s tornadoes. But it will be several weeks, at least, before the crews can get around everywhere. At Monday’s City Council meeting, council members were unanimous in their praise of city employees from the fire, police and public works departments for their work in the aftermath of the tornadoes.

You can get certified copies of your birth certificate dating back to 1971 for $13 for the first copy and $6 for additional copies, at the Kewanee location.
