Alpena officials ask for patience with snow plow drivers amid harsh winter
ALPENA, Mich. (WBKB) - City officials are asking residents to show patience and respect toward snow plow drivers who have worked around the clock during what they describe as an exceptionally rough winter season. The Alpena Department of Public Works has issued a public statement asking residents to refrain from using abusive language or making threatening gestures toward plow truck operators, who officials say are simply doing their jobs to keep roads safe. "The staff at DPW deserve a big thank you for the countless hours that they have spent behind the wheel of the plow trucks," city officials said. "They spend time away from their families so yours can be safe." The statement comes as frustration mounts over snow removal and road conditions throughout the northern Michigan city. Officials acknowledge that the snow and weather can be frustrating but emphasize that targeting plow drivers with inappropriate behavior creates unnecessary tension in an already stressful environment. Residents with concerns about snow removal are encouraged to contact City Engineer Steve Shultz at the number provided by the city. The harsh winter conditions have also created significant challenges for road maintenance beyond snow removal. City officials report that numerous potholes exist throughout
