    APD investigating police shooting near Central and Mesilla

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department is investigating a police shooting that happened around 9 p.m. Thursday near Central and Mesilla. Police say the suspect is in custody and no one was injured.

    APD says an officer approached a suspect on the sidewalk in the area when drugs fell out of the man’s pocked. The suspect then fled on food and the officer gave chase. APD Chief of Police Harold Medina said the suspect ignored verbal commands to drop a gun. He said the officer discharged their firearm and advised dispatch that the suspect pointed a firearm at him.

    Police later were able to take the suspect into custody, no one was injured in the shooting. A gun was not found on the suspect at the time he was taken into custody. Police are searching the area for the weapon and are investigating the incident.
