Owner Sheila McVeigh says she has two main goals for the gallery: To keep prices within a wide and affordable range and to give back to the local community. One of the ways she plans to achieve both of these goals is through the gallery’s August resale art show and reception with over 250 works by well-known, local artists from their private collections. Taste Global Flavors at Mata G
Mata G Vegetarian Kitchen makes eating nourishing foods easy. MATA G (in Sanskrit, meaning “respected or honorable mother”) opened in Albuquerque’s Nob Hill neighborhood in 2018 with the goal of making people feel healthy, happy, and nourished through its line of vegetarian and vegan ready-made snacks, meals, and drinks. “A couple of years before we opened, my son gave me our logo and said, ‘People should taste your food because people don’t understand how good vegetarian food can be,’ ” says Gurubachan Kaur Khalsa, whose family, staff, and customers lovingly call her Mata G. Plant-forward recipes, like the Mediterranean sub with hummus and green chile olive tapenade or the Moroccan saffron couscous bowl, are inspired by her love of global cuisine, Lebanese heritage, and childhood spent in Mexico City. Mata G also offers catering and, in keeping true to its mission of serving others, donates thousands of pounds of food each year across New Mexico.
