ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Splash pads opened a little earlier this year in the City of Albany to help people beat the heat and, according to Mayor Kathy Sheehan, give kids something to do.

“With the heat that we’re expecting today, and over the next few days, thanks to the incredible hard work of our Department of General Services…our spray pads are ready,” said Sheehan.

Among the splash pads at several parks that open are Lincoln Park, North Swan Street Park, and Sheridan Park. While Albany’s first taste of the summer heat – a safety reminder to keep an eye out for the more vulnerable – like elderly neighbors and young children.

When temperatures exceed the 90-degree mark the state recommends providing ample water and water breaks every 15 minutes, monitoring athletes for heat illness, and considering postponing practice to a time when it feels cooler.

The state also advises coaches to consider reducing the amount of time for the practice sessions. They reccomend one hour of recovery time for every hour of practice. Spray pad are open from 10 AM to 6PM all throughout the summer. Stay safe and stay cool.
