One person arrested after stealing fuel from multiple gas stations
CASS COUNTY, Minn. (Valley News Live) - One person has been arrested after allegedly stealing hundreds of dollars worth of fuel from at least three retailers. On July 22, shortly before 8:30 p.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a gas drive off from Swanson’s Bait in Hackensack, Minnesota valued at $259.55. Earlier that same evening, there was a theft of fuel from the Corner Store in Backus, Minnesota with a value of $300. Court records say officials also received a report of $529 worth of gas taken from the Cenex in Remer on June 4.
Duluth woman arrested for multiple fuel thefts in Cass County
CASS COUNTY, Minn. (Northern News Now) - A Duluth woman was arrested in Cass County for stealing hundreds of dollars worth of fuel. According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday at around 8:20 p.m., deputies responded to the report of $259.55 worth of fuel stolen from a retailer in Hackensack, Minn., south of Walker, Minn.

Level 3 offender released in Cass Lake area
Sheriff Bryan Welk reports a Risk Level 3 Offender was released Monday to the 300th block of Spruce Avenue in Cass Lake area. The offender has been identified as Cory James Bebeau, born Aug. 4, 1987. Bebeau engaged in separate incidents of sexual contact against a known female child. Contact included penetration. Bebeau gained unmonitored access to the victim while frequenting her home. He used his established relationship of trust in an effort to maintain control. Audit dings Park Rapids' debt service, liquor funds and internal controls
The city of Park Rapids received a mixed audit report on its 2023 finances during the city council’s meeting on Tuesday, July 23. According to Tracee Bruggeman with Brady Martz & Associates in Thief River Falls, audits of the city’s business-type activities, general fund, capital projects, water and sewer funds and aggregate remaining information resulted in “unmodified,” or clean, opinions.
Nevis School organizes action committee
Summer is flying by, and I hope everyone is enjoying it. Despite the quieter season at Nevis Public School, the district continues to move ahead with facilities planning. Recently, the district conducted two online surveys to gain insights about the district’s performance and facilities needs – one for teachers and staff in May and one for the Nevis community in June. The community survey was open to all residents from June 17 through June 30, and 266 completed responses were received. Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate.
