OTTAWA COUNTY, OKLA. (KOAM) - A collision on the Will Rogers Turnpike near Afton, Oklahoma, on May 13, 2024, resulted in injuries to two individuals.

The incident occurred at 9:00 am on the eastbound lanes near the 308-mile marker in Ottawa County.

The collision involved two vehicles: a 2015 Fiat 500 driven by Jaz Spangler, a 20-year-old male from Trafalgar, Indiana, and a 2006 Lincoln Town Car driven by Fritz Voss, a 79-year-old male from Bettendorf, Iowa.

According to reports, Spangler's Fiat 500 was traveling eastbound on the turnpike when it lost control due to excessive speed for the road conditions.

The vehicle struck a wall and came to a stop in the lane of traffic. Voss, driving the Lincoln Town Car, was unable to avoid the Fiat 500 and collided with it.

Voss was transported by Integris EMS to Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri, where he was admitted in stable condition with trunk internal and external injuries. A passenger in Voss's vehicle, Judith Larson, an 82-year-old female also from Bettendorf, Iowa, was also transported to Mercy Hospital. She was admitted in stable condition with similar injuries.

Both drivers were reportedly wearing seatbelts, and the airbags in both vehicles deployed. The weather at the time of the collision was rainy, and the roadway was wet.

The collision is a reminder of the importance of driving at safe speeds, especially in adverse weather conditions, to prevent accidents and injuries.
