5 arrested in Athens County drug raid
NELSONVILLE, Ohio — A coordinated operation by the Athens County Drug Task Force, Athens County Prosecutor’s Office, Adult Parole Authority, and Nelsonville Police Department resulted in multiple arrests at a Nelsonville residence. The search warrant executed on June 11, 2024, at 40 Poling Avenue was part of an ongoing drug abuse investigation.

Canines Sasha and Winnie Sue help find missing persons and discover human remains
PLEASANT TOWNSHIP − Not everyone who works at the Pleasant Township Fire Department has two legs. Sasha and Winnie Sue, aka Batgirl, have four. They are the two members of the department's K9 unit, which is used to search for missing persons and human remains. Sasha has been with the fire department since 2019 and Winnie Sue started in January. Both are German Shepherds.
NASA collaborates with popular park to plant Ohio’s first-ever ‘tree from moon’
Back in 1971, Apollo 14 astronauts brought a sycamore seedling into outer space and kept in on board the spaceship. In 1976, the seedling was given to the Franklin Park Conservatory via the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The “moon tree” was supposed to be planted in Bicentennial Park after a few years of growing its strong roots at the Conservatory, but unfortunately, the tree never survived. It died in the nursery, and the highly prized moon tree never made it to Bicentennial Park, and was never officially planted into the ground, according to NASA’s website.

JUNE 3 When Vinton County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop on West Main Street on June 3 in McArthur, a search of the vehicle was conducted where suspected cocaine was seized. Nicholas Bowling, 18, of McArthur, was arrested and transported to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail. JUNE 8 When deputies conducted a traffic stop June 8 on East Main Street in McArthur, they impounded the vehicle due to having fictitious license plates, and upon an inventory search, suspected methamphetamine was seized from the vehicle. Michael Wright, 43, of Wellston, was arrested and transported to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail. June 8, Deputies took custody of Dustin Radcliff, 42, of Londonderry, for outstanding warrants out of Vinton County (Failure to Register as a sex offender, and possession of drugs). Radcliff was transported to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

COLUMBUS — On June 5 state Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) announced that the 20th Senate District will receive $5,562,947 in grant awards to help improve water infrastructure.
