ODOT's Gateway to the Islands project in Port Clinton nears completion
The Ohio Department of Transportation will hold a public dedication of a $11 million project in Port Clinton, dubbed the Gateway to the Islands, that is nearing completion. The event will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Shores and Islands Welcome Center, 770 S.E. Catawba Road, Port Clinton.

Businessman offers the taste of Togo to the United States via northwest Ohio
PORT CLINTON — When Togolese businessman Kodjo Afidegnon was searching for a U.S. shipping hub and office for his food export startup, he naturally looked to northwest Ohio. Mr. Afidgenon was very familiar with the region. He moved to the area from the West African nation of Togo in 2004 to attend the University of Toledo, where he received a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. “I wanted to attend a school in Ohio or Michigan because that is the center of the American automotive industry,” Mr. Afidegnon said. At the time, working for one of the major American auto companies was his career goal.
OSHP: Toledo man arrested after Ohio Turnpike pursuit
ELMORE, Ohio — Authorities arrested a Toledo man on the Ohio Turnpike just south of Elmore Thursday night after a pursuit, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Sgt. Ryan Purpura, OSHP spokesperson, told WTOL 11 that 23-year-old Nathaniel Woodby was charged with receiving stolen property and failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer.

Walk-off home run propels Perrysburg softball past Springfield in district final
CLYDE, Ohio — Hitting a walk-off home run to win a game is what players dream of. For Perrysburg's Jessica Miller, it became reality Friday. With Springfield surging to tie the game late, Miller took advantage of a pitch over the plate, slamming a solo shot over the left-field fence, lifting second-seeded Perrysburg to a 9-8 Division I district championship over the third-seeded Blue Devils at Joe Wilson Field at Clyde High School. "I was really hoping to hit a line drive just to get on base," Miller said. "A walk is a walk. I was going to be on base and I knew at some point, I was going to be that winning run."
A few tinks were different for SJCC softball in district final win
Two tinks were different. It was a softball game, so you heard bats tink all evening. The first tink that stood out was orchestrated by by a home run swing from Stella Thomas for the go-ahead tally in the third inning in three-seed St. Joseph Central Catholic's 6-3 victory Thursday over top seed Danbury for a district crown in Division IV.
