Woodmore Middle School students protest potential leadership change
WOODVILLE, Ohio — Students at Woodmore Middle School staged a walkout Friday afternoon, protesting the potential removal of their principal at the end of the year. More than 60 students spent about 20 minutes on the school's front lawn chanting slogans in support of Principal Kevin Ball before going back inside to resume their classes. Passing cars occasionally honked their horns in support. Concerns about Mr. Ball's continued employment with the district started popping up earlier this week when rumors began circulating that Woodmore Local Schools Superintendent Mary Schaeffer was not going to recommend his contract be renewed. The protest was monitored by school officials and parents while Woodville police kept a watchful eye from afar.
Wood County fire departments pursue Knox Box grant
Five Wood County municipalities are joining together to pursue a grant that will help modernize the Knox Box system. A Knox Box contains a key to allow first responders to access a residence or a building during an emergency. If the grant is received, the boxes will be switched to electronic keys, which will allow all fire and police departments in the region immediate access, said Perrysburg Township Fire Chief Tom Brice. “This is a regional application in conjunction with Northwood, Rossford, Perrysburg, and Lake Township,” he said. “We’re attempting to get funding to switch all our community-wide Knox Boxes that are on our businesses and some of our residences that give us access.”

Through traffic is detoured at Harvard Circle, and now the first through street back from the Anthony Wayne Trail is Western Avenue. South Avenue may intermittently be closed at Broadway as the project advances. City officials said in announcing the longer closing that the current work phase runs through mid-June. A bridge replacement project at the Norfolk Southern railroad yard in South Toledo will require lane closures on Fearing Boulevard for six months starting Monday between Airline and Hill avenues. The city said Fearing may also be closed at night and on weekends at times during this project. The best alternative route for most traffic is Byrne Road, while Hawley Street is the first way to cross the tracks east of Fearing.
