TPS and administrators sued for alleged abuse, assault on students
Two separate lawsuits have been filed against Toledo Public Schools and administrators alleging that special-needs children were assaulted and physically abused while in school during May, 2023. One lawsuit was filed on behalf of a mother whose son suffered dental damage allegedly at the hands of a Robinson Elementary School classroom paraprofessional after he misbehaved in class, while the other was brought by a mother who says her 9-year-old son suffered facial injuries after being thrown across a room by his special-education teacher at Spring Elementary School. In the Robinson case, the plaintiff said the school nurse substitute who contacted her May 10, 2023, initially downplayed the incident’s severity while asking the plaintiff to come to school to pick up her son. When the plaintiff asked whether she could wait until the end of the school day, the nurse told her he had several broken teeth. According to the lawsuit, the nurse completed an incident report based on a narrative from one of two paraprofessionals in the classroom who described the other paraprofessional grabbing the boy by the back of his neck and slamming his face into his desk after the boy refused to sit properly in his chair.

Wayward tractor-trailer fells cables along Northwood street
A tractor-trailer pulled down telecommunications cables Monday when it ventured onto a residential street in Northwood, police said. Multiple cable spans were torn down in the incident reported at 6:03 p.m. near Harding Avenue and Oram Road. Among the Buckeye Broadband customers affected by the resulting outage was the Northwood police station itself, although a spokesman said the department switched to a backup system and its emergency response capability was not impaired. Geoff Shook, president and general manager of Buckeye Broadband, said service to about a dozen other customers was interrupted.

BGSU announces new dean for College of Technology, Architecture and Applied Engineering
BOWLING GREEN — Following a national search, Bowling Green State University has selected Wael Mokhtar as dean for the College of Technology, Architecture and Applied Engineering. Mr. Mokhtar is director of the School of Engineering at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich. As director, he has led student recruitment and retention initiatives, developed new engineering degree programs, and led two successful accreditations through the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. He holds a doctorate in aerospace engineering from Old Dominion University and is a professor of mechanical engineering at GVSU. His research interests include computational fluid dynamics, wind tunnel testing, vehicle aerodynamics, and teaching methods. He will join BGSU in July and will succeed Kendall Harris, who has served as interim dean since August.

Feasel is new treasurer for Bowling Green schools
BOWLING GREEN – A familiar financial face in northwest Ohio school districts has landed in Bowling Green. Matt Feasel was hired May 8 by the Bowling Green City Schools Board of Education as the new chief financial officer/treasurer, effective Aug. 1. Mr. Feasel will oversee all aspects of financial management for the school district. He will also serve as secretary to the board of education. He has served in the same role for Pike Delta York Local School District since September, 2016. Mr. Feasel has also been treasurer for Perrysburg, Hilliard, Fremont, and Elmwood school districts. Additionally, he served as a deputy auditor for the Wood County Auditor’s Office. He also served eight years as a member of the Elmwood Board of Education.
