After the devastating July flooding, Montpelier is truly feeling alive. Saturday marked the opening day for the 47th Capital City Farmer’s Market. It is an agriculture market where 70% of the vendors are required to be agricultural whether that’s produce, meat, anything else on the agricultural side. The other 30% is for craft and food vendors. There were over 50 vendors and hundreds came out to enjoy the weather and fresh produce.

Massachusetts man sentenced for organizing Northeast Kingdom drug ring
Burlington, VT- A Massachusetts man was sentenced to nearly 8 years in prison for selling cocaine and fentanyl in the Northeast Kingdom. Juan Carlos Ortiz, 29, from Springfield, MA, had previously pleaded guilty to the charges of selling drugs between November 2021 and August 2022 under a plea agreement. According to court records, Ortiz organized a group of 13 people in a drug-distributing network that sold mostly in the Northeast Kingdom, including Orleans, Essex, and Caledonia Counties.
Stowe Township store shut down due to lack of permit, hot water, and other health risks
STOWE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - An establishment in Stowe Township is being forced to close by the Allegheny County Health Department for a myriad of reasons. "Cravingz" on Broadway Avenue was operating without a permit when inspectors arrived to check the building. Once inside, they found several violations including those preparing food had been smoking, a lot of the food preparation and cooking equipment was heavily soiled, cigarette butts were found inside the handwashing station in the kitchen, and the dumpster was "overflowing" with garbage according to the report. They also found that there was no hot water in the building and a total of one restroom for both staff and customers. Cravingz is now closed until further notice and will not be allowed to reopen until they obtain a permit, correct several things along with what was listed above, and submit plans for health and safety.
Two vehicles totaled in Lyndon collision, one driver hospitalized
LYNDON — A head-on collision on Red Village Road near Black Walnut Lane resulted in two totaled vehicles and minor injuries for one driver, Vermont State Police reported. The crash occurred at 11:14 a.m. when Joslyn Richardson, 35, of Barre, fell asleep at the wheel of her 2019 Subaru Impreza and struck a 2021 Hyundai KONA operated by Danica Rolfe, 48, of Kirby.
Montpelier ‘Stump Dump’ forced to close after encroaching on wetland of its own creation
MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) - A Montpelier dump for yard waste is closing after state officials say it violated wetland protection laws. “The city was issued two violations from the state of Vermont. One was for wetlands encroachment and the other was the requirement to have a solid waste permit,” said Montpelier Public Works Director Kurt Motkya.
