Assault weapon deadline looming
For the past several weeks, employees at Swamp Yankee Arms have been fielding a barrage of phone calls and aiding a steady stream of customers at the Jewett City gun shop. Gun sales are brisk, but that’s not the reason so many people are coming in. Shop owner Zachary Pearson said the increase is because of a scramble by gun owners to meet a May 1 deadline to register certain firearms to comply with the new state assault weapon regulations.

Fire extinguished in Norwich
Norwich ― Firefighters extinguished a fire Saturday at a multi-family mixed-use property at 277 Central Ave. that was found in the wall of an attached porch. Norwich and Taftville firefighters were called out for reports of the fire at 1:50 p.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke at the rear of the building, Norwich Fire Battalion Chief Mark Benjamin said.

Felony Charges Janessa Mione After Children Found In Street
Janessa Louise Mione of Lebanon's two "children left the residence and were wandering the neighborhood unattended," the police stated in the release. The affidavit explained that a neighbor didn't just stumble across the young girls, they knocked on her door as a possible "new home" after Mione allegedly threw them out. One girl was in a t-shirt dress and the other was in a long-sleeved t-shirt with leggings, neither had a jacket and it was around sunset on April 19 so the stranger let them in. Suddenly, the 4-year-old said she wanted ice cream and ran out of the home, so while carrying the toddler, the woman ran into the street after her, catching the preschooler, and waiting with the two girls until the police arrived.
Motorcyclist Killed In Plainfield After Crashing Into Parked Car: Authorities
At 5 a.m. Plainfield police responded to the 700 block of East 3rd St. on a report of a crash, Andrea Wright, a spokeswoman for the city said.
