National Day of Prayer Today
A National Day of Prayer event will take place Thursday, May the 2nd at the stage in Light Park. This non-denominational prayer service is being organized by the Liberal Ministerial Alliance and will begin at 12:00 pm. Community leaders and pastors are scheduled to pray for a wide variety of City, County, School, State, and National issues. The event will begin with the posting of the colors by the American Legion followed by the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance. Everyone is invited to spend their lunch hour or any portion of the noon hour praying with others from around the community. This event will also be streamed on the Liberal Ministerial Alliance Facebook page.
Chamber Legislative Luncheon May 8th
The Liberal Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Epic Touch will be hosting a Legislative Luncheon beginning at 12:00 pm, on Wednesday , May the 8th at the Rock Island Depot. The update will feature Representatives Shannon Francis and Gary White. Everyone is welcome to come to hear the latest updates from Topeka. Questions are welcome. Lunch will be provided. Bentley Fitzgerald is Hay Rice and Associates Athlete of the Week
Liberal junior runner Bentley Fitzgerald is this week’s Hay Rice and Associates Athlete of the Week. Fitzgerald won the 400 in 59.44 (PR) Friday in Hutchinson. She ran the 800 for the first time Tuesday in Garden City and was 2nd in 2:30. She was part of a 4×800 relay team which took first at Garden City on Tuesday in 10:05. The 4×400 relay team of which Fitzgerald is a member, set a PR at 4:09 at the KT Woodman at Wichita State. She is also involved in NHS, powerlifting, and the Coffee Club at LHS. She was on a 4×100 and 4×400 relay team which made state and helped win a regional last season. She will run the 400, 200, and 4×400 Friday at Goddard.

Hays Softball Handles LHS
The Liberal softball team headed northeast to Hays on Tuesday for a double header. The Hays Indians won 15-0 and 13-3 over the Liberal Redskin softball team Tuesday afternoon. In the 15-0 game, HHS scored seven in the first, two in the second, and six in the third for the run rule. LHS had one McKenna Alexander hit. Game two went five innings. Liberal scored a run in the second before Hays scored five in the second, four in the third, and four in the fourth. Hays out-hit Liberal 6-5. Zoey Torres and Marypher Lopez both had RBI’s in the loss. Hays in 13-5 overall and 10-1 in the WAC. Liberal is 5-14 overall and 0-7 in the WAC.
