Tractor-truck collision in Southwestern Kansas blamed on cloud of dust
LIBERAL, Kan. (WIBW) - A cloud of dust has been blamed for a tractor-truck crash near Liberal that left one man with serious injuries. The Kansas Highway Patrol Crash Log indicates that around 5:10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, emergency crews were called to the area of County Road 22 and County Road C - about 8 miles northwest of Liberal - with reports of a 2-vehicle crash.
Downed power line leads to grass fire
A downed power line is what local fire officials say caused a vegetation fire Tuesday night northeast of Liberal. In a press release, Seward County Fire Chief Andrew Barkley said around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters were dispatched to a vegetation fire with a power line down on Road L between Road 6 and Road 7.

Man suffers from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound
An individual is in a Wichita hospital after what local authorities have ruled an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. In a press release, Seward County Undersheriff Ryan Roehr said around 8:30 a.m. Monday, a call was received reporting an individual laying on the ground near the intersection of Road R and Road 4 in rural Seward County.
Classes starting to fill for 2023 Kids' College
With summer officially here, parents are looking for various activities for their children and soon, Seward County Community College will be helping with just that. Seward County Community College will again be offering its annual Kids’ College. This year’s Kids’ College will run from July 17 through 20, with three sessions to choose from – 8 to 9:15 a.m., 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., and then 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., with the final day including a pool and pizza party for everyone, and that will finish at 2 p.m. Kids’ College is for students entering 1st through 8th grades, and all children will gather outside the SCCC Student Union building 10 minutes before each session for drop-off. There will be some off-campus classes such as bowling (Billy’s Ayr Lanes) and fishing, which will be at a local pond. Classes are $25 apiece.
Downed Powerline Causes Rural Fire
On 06/06/2023 at 8:30pm Seward County Firefighters we’re dispatched to a vegetation fire with powerline down on Road L. Units arrived on the scene to find a 3 acre slow burning vegetation fire. Units contained the fire until the power company could make the downed power line safe.

Deer tests positive for Chronic Wasting Disease in the Oklahoma Panhandle
TEXAS COUNTY, Oklahoma (KFDA) - A white-tailed deer tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD) in the Oklahoma Panhandle. The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) said a Texas County landowner saw a deer behaving abnormally and reported it to them. The deer was recovered near Optima and was tested.
Rattlers Take Home Field for Two Wins
With the Liberal Bee Jays on the road, the Liberal Rattlers gave fans a night of baseball Wednesday night. The Rattlers hosted the Dodge City A’s. The Rattlers won both games 7-6 and 8-5. The Rattlers rallied in game one. They trailed 4-0 going to the bottom of the sixth before plating six to lead 6-4. Dodge City rallied with two to tie it. C.J.
