'Night of a Thousand Stars' shines in Shenandoah
(Shenandoah) -- Even on a cloudy night, the stars came out in Shenandoah Saturday night. Performers from all over KMAland gathered for "The Night of a Thousand Stars," a fundraiser for the Essex East Gym project. A overflow crowd packed the Elm Street Grill to enjoy a full night of entertainment--complete with a three-course meal. Mace Hensen and Fremont-Mills freshman Asa Reyes emceed the event. Hensen and a committee of Belinda and Blair DeBolt and Ciara Schierkolk recruited the cavalcade of talent. Hensen tells KMA News the show went on amidst threatening watcher conditions.
Severe weather weekend still expected in KMAland
(Undated) -- Confidence remains high for a substantial severe weather outbreak in KMAland throughout the weekend. Most of the region remains in an enhanced risk for severe storms--including all modes of extreme weather conditions. Weatherology Meteorologist Kara Foster is among those watching the potential weather development. Foster tells KMA News says the tornado potential is expected to increase later this afternoon with a heated atmosphere.
May groundbreaking planned for Clarinda SAVE projects
(Clarinda) -- Clarinda school officials are counting down to the end of the current school year for more than one reason. Construction is expected to begin this summer on projects covered under the district's Secure an Advanced Vision for Education or SAVE dollars. Up to $9.8 million in SAVE funding is earmarked for construction of six new classrooms, a new secure entrance, new offices, and a new restroom in the junior high section at Clarinda's 7-12 complex, and mechanical and electrical work at both the 7-12 and pre-K-6 buildings. Speaking on KMA's "Morning Line" program Friday morning, Clarinda School Superintendent Jeff Privia says some preliminary dirtwork is already underway.
Family easily sold for Great Bend’s Keeley to take coaching job
Great Bend native Matt Keeley is settling into his new coaching gig, a job much closer to his hometown. For the past seven seasons, Keeley has served as the head basketball coach at Ottawa University Arizona, winning 113 games. Last Wednesday, he was introduced as the head coach at Northwest Missouri State University.
