Zebra mussels found in Lake Menomin
MENOMONIE, Wis. (WEAU) - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources notified the City of Menomonie that zebra mussels, an invasive species, have been found in Lake Menomin. According to a news release from the City of Menomonie, zebra mussels impact plankton and algae populations, which can harm fish populations in bodies of water. They avoid eating blue-green algae which can increase toxical algal blooms.
Rice Lake man appears in court on burglary charge
A Rice Lake man accused of burglary after police say he and a Menomonie woman broke into a storage unit and stole items appeared on Wednesday in Barron County Circuit Court. Michael R. Melendez, 27, was charged on Feb. 14, 2023, with felony burglary and two misdemeanors of theft of movable property and criminal damage to property, all as parties to a crime. ST. CROIX COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) - The scene is now cleared where three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck near Baldwin, Wis. According to a news release from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, on April 29 at 9:08 a.m., authorities responded to a two-vehicle crash with injuries in St. Croix County on Interstate 94 at milepost 18.
