Dirt racing returns to Hutchinson, more than 2500 fill the grandstands
HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KAKE) - Friday night was the grand opening of the Salt City Racetrack; it’s a new name for the old dirt track on the Hutchinson fairgrounds. The race was an event many were worried wouldn’t happen after the state fair board voted to demolish the track over a year ago. But thanks to the community banding together and creating the Save Our Track movement the track will live to see another year of racing.
Arlington Hosts Arbor Day Tree Giveaway, Inviting People to Grow Green Spaces
In a leafy initiative fitting for Arbor Day, Arlington Parks and Recreation is giving people a reason to dig into their gardening gloves. This Friday, the city agency will host a tree giveaway event at TCC's Southeast Campus in Arlington, handing out saplings to city dwellers eager to add some green to their concrete jungle. Each household is eligible to receive one free tree on a 'first-come, first-served' basis starting at 11 AM.
Salt City has truly Grand Opening Friday

Irwin named to 911 Coordinating Council
TOPEKA, Kan. — Kevin Irwin, Director of Hutchinson-Reno County Emergency Communications, was named by Gov. Laura Kelly on Friday to the Kansas 911 Coordinating Council. The Kansas 911 Coordinating Council was created by the Kansas 911 Act (K.S.A 12-5362 et seq) and is tasked with monitoring the delivery of 911 services, developing strategies for future enhancements to the 911 system.
New Kingman EMS Chief named
KINGMAN, Kan. — Matthias Brand has been selected as the new Chief of Kingman EMS and Rescue. He will start Monday, April 29. Brand said in a letter posted online, "With a background rooted in emergency medical services and a passion for serving communities, I am honored to take on this role and contribute to the safety and well-being of the community."

Severance remaining closed for water line repairs
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — On April 18, a significant break occurred in the 24-inch waterline under Severance Street, between 17th and 23rd Avenues. Immediate repair efforts included the installation of a clamp on the damaged section. Unfortunately, the initial clamp was not able to completely seal the leak.
