YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Fentanyl is gripping the country.

One state in particular feeling the effects of the deadly drug is Oregon which is why its state lawmakers came to the Yuma border Monday to try and gain further insight on the issue.

Back in 2020, the state de-criminalized hard drugs.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the following year Oregon saw about a 26 percent death rate for drug overdose an increase of almost 10 percent.

“So for me, it is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about how we can collaborate and stop these drugs from entering our country," stated Sen. David Brock Smith (R-Oregon) District 1.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized almost 50,000 pounds of drugs last month just a little less compared to March of 2023 which was over 56,000 pounds.
