YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The American Alliance of Museums has decided not to reaccredit Youngstown’s Butler Institute of American Art.

This is the first time since the 1980s that the Bulter has not had the prestigious accreditation.

Bulter spokesperson Susan Carfano says they lost the accreditation because of storage issues at the museum — which was built in 1919.

She says the Butler has 22,000 pieces of art and the Alliance had issues with how they were being preserved. Carfano says they’re trying to correct the problems — and hopes to eventually be re-accredited.
