YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Two people Tuesday were sentenced to probation for their role in an arson-for-profit scheme.

Jessica Gonzalez, 54, and Heather Kellar, 52, both received their sentences from Judge John Durkin in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court after pleading guilty Feb. 6.

Kellar pleaded guilty to counts of attempted arson, insurance fraud and forgery. Gonzalez pleaded guilty to a first-degree misdemeanor charge of theft.

They were among seven people indicted in 2021 for scheming to burn down buildings for money.

The indictment includes charges of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity in Mahoning, Trumbull and Ashtabula counties from 2011 to 2017.

The woman who authorities said was the leader of the ring was sentenced last month to probation also, which was recommended by the attorneys in the case and upheld by the judge.
