A longtime eatery on the Lawrenceville Square is moving? A bakery/coffee shop may be going in the Lawrenceville Train Depot? There’s a lot happening in the heart of Lawrenceville. After the Metro Atlanta Redevelopment Summit concluded last week, Lawrenceville City Manager Chuck Warbington gave the Daily Post a tease of some redevelopment that is happening in the city’s downtown and depot districts. One bit of redevelopment is actually a relocation. Blue Rooster Bake Shop and Eatery is planning to move off the Lawrenceville Square and head a couple of blocks up North Clayton Street to a new location in the Depot District. Blue Rooster has been on the square, directly across from the north entrance to the Gwinnett County Historic Courthouse, for years, but that will change in the not too distant future. The bakery is currently renovating an old business space at the corner of North Clayton and Born Streets with plans to move into that location once the renovations are finished. “They’ve torn all of the stuff off the sides of the building,” Warbington said. “It looks like a shed now but they’re actually going to be upgrading that. That will be our first food concept down there

Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful, a local Keep America Beautiful affiliate, is organizing the event as part of its ongoing efforts to promote sustainability throughout the county. “At Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful, we are all about Connecting People and Resources for a Sustainable Gwinnett,” said Schelly Marlatt, executive director of the nonprofit. “Each year, our America Recycles Day event serves as a shining example of our mission in action. We bring our neighbors together with Solid Waste Management, haulers, and a variety of recycling partners.” Marlatt noted that because the organization cannot hold these collection events every month, residents seeking disposal options for items not accepted
Although Gwinnett County Superior Court Judge Deborah Fluker passed away earlier this year, her memory was not forgotten by county government and court leaders on what would have been her birthday last week. The county held an unveiling ceremony for a portrait of Fluker this past Friday at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville. “I knew her not only as a respected judge, but a dedicated public servant. She was also a woman of compassion conviction and grace,” Clerk of Court Tiana Garner told attendees at the ceremony. “She was a devoted wife, mother and friend whose presence touched so many lives both in and outside the courtroom. “I can stand here today and say she is truly missed.” Fluker, who was first elected to the Superior Court bench in 2020, passed away in April after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She had been a prosecutor in the Gwinnett District Attorney’s Office and a judge in lower courts before she joined the Superior Court bench. Fluker’s husband, Reggie, and their children attended the ceremony to see her portrait unveiled. “Just six months ago, we gathered to remember Judge Deborah Fluker’s life and mourn her passing.
