Documentary 'DUST' Highlights Post-9/11 Illnesses and Legislation

The Social Impact Content Film School (S.I.C.), together with New York State Assemblyman Nader Sayegh , will be hosting a free catered screening of the documentary, “DUST” on Friday, April 26. The event aims to raise awareness about the “9/11 Notice Act” signed into law by Governor Hochul on September 11, 2023 and authored by Nader Sayegh.

The “ 9/11 Notice Act” provides support for hundreds of thousands of people navigating life after their harrowing experience in lower-Manhattan, and their exposure to Ground Zero toxins, as they fight for fair compensation and access to free health care . The first law of its kind in the U.S., the Act will require eligible employees of businesses and institutions to be informed of their rights. It goes into affect on June 7 of this year.

About the documentary

“DUST” is a captivating film documenting the journey of 9/11 survivors. It highlights those who have been affected by post-9/11-related illnesses and cancers. The film also features stories from The Daily Show's Jon Stewart and Steve Buscemi, actor and former NYC Firefighter. Buscemi is also an executive producer of the film, along with Bridget Gormley, who wrote and directed the project. Gormley herself suffered loss due to the events of 9/11. She lost her father, Billy Gormley, to bladder cancer after he served as a firefighter and a first-responder on 9/11.

An informative question and answer session, moderated by moderated by S.I.C. Film School founder Hezues R., will take place directly after the 25-minute screening. There will be a panel consisting of Assemblyman Sayegh, Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow, and Gormley herself. Additional guests include attorney Michael Barasch of Barasch & McGarry, who has represented over 40,000 individuals impacted by the events of September 11, 2001. There will also be a free lunch provided.

The event takes place on the fifth floor of the YoFi Fest Digital Media Art Center at 28 Wells Ave Building 3 in Yonkers. The screening runs on Friday, April 26 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There is limited space available, so those interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP.
