A Woodstock High School student recently earned national recognition in a national 3D design contest, the Cherokee County School District announced.

Sophomore Jax Singleton was named one of 20 national Army Educational Outreach Program Veterans Appreciation Challenge finalists by Future Engineers.

Students from grades four through 12 nationwide were invited to design 3D pins that express gratitude to U.S. military veterans. Only 10 finalists were named in each grade level: fourth through eighth and ninth through 12th. Jax is the only Georgia student to be honored.

The national program encourages students to hone their 3D design skills and develop their creativity. Finalists’ designs will be crafted and distributed to veterans who visit the National Veterans Memorial and Museum in Columbus, Ohio for its annual Memorial Day event. Finalists also receive five prints of their winning design and a $100 gift card for a professional 3D print.

Jax’s design, titled Veterans for the World, depicts a laurel wreath wrapped around the earth with the word “veteran” in red, white and blue lettering shown banner style across the design.

“This pin represents how the veterans not only fought for our country, but our allies and the world itself,” Jax said of the design.

Jax is a student in the engineering and technology Career Pathway program led by teacher Melanie Salas.
