Darby woman gets suspended sentence for arson
A 34-year-old Darby woman who set fire to historic ranch buildings in the Wisdom area was ordered to pay $161,410.53 in restitution for the damage. Daniette Ashley Koch received a 10-year suspended sentence alongside the restitution amount for burning down ranch buildings on the Eliel Ranch in April 2021. Judge Luke Berger waived all court fees and other costs Koch would be required to pay, though he and others in attendance at the Sept. 19 sentencing expressed doubt that Koch could repay the full amount.
No. 9 Montana Tech volleyball continues to roll, takes down Rocky
BUTTE — The No. 9 Montana Tech volleyball team celebrated its highest ranking in program history accordingly this week — picking up two wins in Frontier Conference play. After defeating Montana State-Northern 3-1 on Friday, the Orediggers (14-2, 3-0 Frontier) followed it up on Saturday with another victory over Rocky Mountain College (13-7, 2-1), which received votes in the latest NAIA coaches poll.
Former State Health Employee Admits Stealing
A former employee with the state health department admitted to stealing nearly $90,000 from federal assistance programs by submitting false information on applications. According to a U.S. Attorney’s Office press release, Heather Marie Bugni, 34, of Butte was a client services coordinator for six years and processed applications and approved benefits for multiple programs including Medicaid and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

Although construction actually began back in August, officials with TDS Telecom and Butte-Silver Bow gathered at the site of a new warehouse on the flats at the intersection of Wynne Avenue and Meadowlark Lane to formally celebrate the occasion.

Bulldogs go 1-3 in volleyball ‘Crossover’ meet
Butte High experienced a grueling day Saturday on its own volleyball court. The Bulldogs won one match and lost the other three in the non-conference jamboree-styled Class AA 2023 East-West Volleyball Crossover. Matches were played in both the Ross J. Richardson Memorial Gym and in Butte High’s old gym. They were in a best-of-three format instead of the regulation best-of-five.
