Dillon man admits failure to register, DUI
A 40-year-old Dillon man admitted in Fifth Judicial District Court last week to driving while drunk and failing to register as a violent offender. Jesse Van Hook pleaded guilty Feb. 13 to felony failure to register as a violent offender, and misdemeanor counts of assault with a bodily fluid and driving under the influence of alcohol. The incidents occurred in September following a traffic stop. Van Hook admitted driving while being over the .08 BAC limit, spitting at an officer and failing to register his local address as required by a prior conviction.
Opening bell sounds on school election
It’s that time of year again. Dillon Elementary School District #10’s Board of Trustees checked off one of its annual late winter to-dos last week with its passage of a resolution calling for a district election this coming spring.
Road work pending around Dillon
The orange cones are coming back to Dillon, Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) officials said last week. MDT Butte District Engineering Project Manager Shane Watson and others spoke to the upcoming and future road projects in the area at the Feb. 16 “Lunch and Learn” gathering of Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce members. Watson noted the same team that shepherded the Atlantic Street rebuild last year would be returning for bridge work and resurfacing.

Engineer: 25 years left on landfill
The engineer overseeing Beaverhead County’s landfill estimated the facility has about 25 years of life left. Engineer Barry Damschen told the solid waste board Feb. 12 that is more of a best guess estimate, as the landfill currently has no way of tracking how much waste comes in.

Public weighs in on proposed Dillon annexation for sports complex
DILLON, Mont. — In Dillon, locals are weighing in on plans for a new stadium complex at Montana Western. During a public hearing on Tuesday evening, officials heard the public’s thoughts on plans to annex a 14-acre parcel of county land adjacent to the local Church of Latter-day Saints into the city of Dillon and its designation as “public lands and institutions,” the same as the university.
