Dillon man gets suspended sentence for intimidation, obstruction
A Dillon man received suspended prison time and fines last week in Fifth Judicial District Court for threatening police and refusing to comply with their orders. Justin Scott Jackson, 36, was sentenced April 16 to a total of three years in the Montana Department of Corrections, all time suspended, for felony intimidation and misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, obstructing a peace officer and criminal mischief. He also received partially-suspended fines, credit for time served to go toward those fines, and court fees. The sentences for each count are concurrent to each other.
Dillon pair appear on aggravated animal cruelty charges
A married Dillon couple appeared in Beaverhead County Justice Court last week on charges alleging animal cruelty and littering. Bob and Constance Riley, ages 71 and 70, were arrested April 16 following a search of their Chreston Lane property by the Beaverhead County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies seized 47 animals in various states of malnutrition, illness and neglect; they are receiving veterinary care.

Dillon senior achieves Eagle Scout status
Ryleigh Plavonic has enjoyed a wildly successful senior year at Beaverhead County High School in Dillon. He served as a captain on the state championship football team and leads Beaverhead FFA as the chapter president. With his free time, he completed the requirements needed to become an Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America. Surrounded by friends, family and mentors, Plavonic received his due on Saturday at his Eagle Scout Court of Honor.

Dillon boys picking up wins
The Dillon boys posted a 2-1 record and the girls were 1-2 last week in three home matches. Dillon faced Livingston and Hamilton on Tuesday and Corvallis on Saturday. “It was a beautiful day and those are few and far between in the spring time so it was great to be out and to get some tennis in,” said Dillon coach Jeff Koslosky of the Saturday showdown with Corvallis.
BCHS to green up with grant
Beaverhead County High School will improve its landscaping to protect the structural integrity of its main campus building, with the help of an Inflation Reduction Act grant. The school board sought up to $30,000 to improve its outdoor space, with the help of Dillon Tree Board member Ann Egan. The district received $19,575, and does not have to match the money.
Animal shelter board eyes facility updates, sees fundraising haul
The Beaverhead Animal Shelter board is hoping to update the shelter facilities and build upon successful fundraisers to keep the budget on track. The board met April 17 and discussed those items and current shelter needs.
